FIRST TEE is an amazing organization with great programs to teach kids how to play golf. On the outset, it looks like junior golf lessons, but that’s only if you don’t look very hard or very deep.
First Tee changes lives.
The golf course provides the setting for love, acceptance, support, activity and inspiration. But not just for the kids! The staff leaders, volunteers, contributors, team leaders, parents and so many more are touched through the reach of First Tee. Two of my three kids participated in First Tee. I saw First Tee as a mom fifteen years ago and now I am experiencing it as a volunteer for the Champions Challenge this Saturday, March 28th.
Children come to First Tee centers all around the globe (six locations in the Greater Houston Area) for a positive golf experience. First Tee now has a National School Program where the 9 core values along with golf instruction are taught as physical education in schools. Part of the National School Program is a huge fun-filled event called the Champions Challenge tied to the Shell Houston Open.
The First Tee National School Program Champions Challenge is a culminating skills event comprised of over 400 fourth graders from 20 area school districts. A boy and a girl from each elementary school is selected to come along with their physical education teacher to the David Shindeldecker Campus the Saturday before the PGA TOUR Shell Houston Open.
You can get involved in this great organization in three ways:
Register – Participate with your children
Volunteer – As a Coach or Mentor
Donate – Money

jeffrey leeGreat to see you again at The Champions Challenge, Pam. This is one of my favorite events of the golf calendar. Multicultural kids are the future of golf. First Tee is the perfect start for life skills and golf. Thanks for your enthusiasm. Doc.

Pam OwensGreat to see you too, Dr. Lee. So lucky to have been asked to do the movement for the event. First Tee is worthy of all our efforts because it touches so many lives and such an unexpected way.

Roger DauzatThis is my 7th year to participate as a team captain. I must say the Pam Owen Muscle-Hustle was one hot event! YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I tried to keep up but my 71 year-old body let me down. I’ve got to get in better condition.
Thank you, Pam, for giving some time and MUCH energy to our program. I am so glad I got to experience your motivation and demonstration last Saturday! I’ve got over 400 kids at Quail Valley who need to experience the same thing!
