FIRST TEE is an amazing organization with great programs to teach kids how to play golf. On the outset, it looks like junior golf lessons, but that’s only if you don’t look very hard or very deep.
First Tee changes lives.
The golf course provides the setting for love, acceptance, support, activity and inspiration. But not just for the kids! The staff leaders, volunteers, contributors, team leaders, parents and so many more are touched through the reach of First Tee. Two of my three kids participated in First Tee. I saw First Tee as a mom fifteen years ago and now I am experiencing it as a volunteer for the Champions Challenge this Saturday, March 28th.
Children come to First Tee centers all around the globe (six locations in the Greater Houston Area) for a positive golf experience. First Tee now has a National School Program where the 9 core values along with golf instruction are taught as physical education in schools. Part of the National School Program is a huge fun-filled event called the Champions Challenge tied to the Shell Houston Open.
The First Tee National School Program Champions Challenge is a culminating skills event comprised of over 400 fourth graders from 20 area school districts. A boy and a girl from each elementary school is selected to come along with their physical education teacher to the David Shindeldecker Campus the Saturday before the PGA TOUR Shell Houston Open.
